What this workflow actually is

You build your full visual program — captures, overlays, facecam layout, scene switching — inside OBS, exactly as covered in GM-06. Instead of streaming directly from OBS (which requires stream-key access), you start OBS Virtual Camera, making OBS's current program output available to other apps as if it were a webcam. Inside LIVE Studio, you add that Virtual Camera as your camera source, the same way you would add a physical webcam.

Step 1 — Build the visual program in OBS

Open your GM-06 scene collection. Confirm your scenes, sources, overlays, and hotkeys work the way you want the final picture to look — this is exactly what will be visible through the Virtual Camera.

Step 2 — Start Virtual Camera

In OBS, start Virtual Camera (menu wording varies by version — confirm current placement in your installed build). Once started, OBS's active program output becomes available system-wide as a camera device.

Step 3 — Add it as a camera source in LIVE Studio

Inside LIVE Studio, open your camera source selection and choose OBS Virtual Camera from the device list — the same menu you would use for a physical webcam. LIVE Studio now displays your OBS program as its "camera" feed.

The critical fact — video only

OBS Virtual Camera provides video only. It does not carry OBS's mixed audio. Whatever you hear inside OBS's own mixer — mic, game audio, Discord, music, alerts — none of it travels through the Virtual Camera device. Add only the Virtual Camera and stop there, and your LIVE Studio session has picture and silence. This is the single most important fact in this lesson: Virtual Camera = picture. Routing audio separately

Choose one of these paths and document which you use:

  • Primary path — LIVE Studio's own mic/device selection. Select your real microphone (and system/application audio, per GM-05) directly inside LIVE Studio, exactly as if OBS were not involved for audio. For most creators, this is the simplest correct answer: OBS handles picture, LIVE Studio handles audio, independently.
  • Secondary path — virtual audio cable plus OBS monitoring, when genuinely needed. If your setup specifically requires OBS's own mixed audio output (for example, a complex mix built entirely inside OBS's Advanced Audio Properties you do not want to rebuild), route that mix through a virtual audio cable into LIVE Studio's audio input, and use OBS's monitoring output so you can still hear yourself while performing. This adds complexity and another point of failure — use it only when the primary path cannot deliver the mix you need.

Preventing double audio

Double audio happens when two paths capture the same sound at once — most often your microphone being picked up by LIVE Studio's mic selection *and* reaching the stream a second time through a misconfigured virtual cable. Synchronizing picture and audio
