Core Lesson 13 (`structuring-longer-lives`) already taught four-block structure and energy arcs for ninety-minute shows — brief callback only. This lesson does not reteach show structure; it keeps the *device* alive long enough for that structure to finish. PD-09 will deepen triage; here you prevent the failures triage should rarely see.

Prerequisites

Complete Audio First: Clean Sound Wins Trust (`audio-first-clean-sound-wins-trust` / PD-04). Mobile video without workable audio is still an audio fail.

You should already have:

• A phone you will actually use for LIVE (any brand — no brand favoritism in this curriculum)
• A way to hold it still (stand, clamp, or stable mount — not propped against a cup)
• Headphones or a mic path that meets your PD-04 pass/fail bar
• Willingness to plug in power and manage heat instead of "charging later"

Main Lesson

Mobile-first is a system, not a compromise

Desktop OBS (PD-06) is optional for many creators. Mobile excellence is not optional if the phone is your primary camera. Treat the station like a tiny control room:

1. Mount — height and angle locked before Go Live 2. Lens — clean glass, locked orientation, no pocket lint 3. Audio — path verified (PD-04), notifications muted 4. Network — primary path tested; backup path named 5. Power — cable seated, charger trustworthy, battery not starting empty 6. Heat — airflow, case decision, brightness set before you cook the device mid-show

If any row is "I'll figure it out live," you do not have a kit yet.

Stands and framing habits

• Lock portrait or landscape *before* you promote the LIVE — orientation flips mid-session punish return viewers
• Eye line near the lens; avoid the "chin up at a laptop" angle unless that is a deliberate brand look
• Clean the lens every session — fingerprints read as soft focus
• Keep the stand out of kick range; cable strain is a silent stream-killer
• If you move rooms, rebuild the mount — "temporary lean" is how phones face-plant

Background clarity from PD-05 still applies on mobile. A great stand cannot save a chaotic wall.

Connectivity basics (reliability, not networking school)

Before LIVE:

• Prefer a stable connection you have tested at *this* location during a similar time of day
• Know whether you are on Wi-Fi or cellular, and what you will switch to if the primary path dies
• Close bandwidth hogs (cloud backups, OS updates, other streaming devices on the same congested Wi-Fi)
• Sit where the signal is strong — not where the wall looks nicer if that corner drops packets
• Do not pirate hotspots or abuse someone else's paid connection; use access you are allowed to use

You are not configuring enterprise networks. You are removing obvious failure modes.

Heat and power for long LIVEs

Ninety minutes of camera + uplink produces heat. Plan for it:

• Start near full charge and plugged into a safe, undamaged cable/charger rated for your device
• Remove thick decorative cases if the phone regularly thermal-throttles on LIVE
• Lower screen brightness to a readable minimum; disable useless always-on extras
• Give the phone air — do not bury it in pillows or a closed cupboard "for aesthetics"
• Never use damaged batteries, swollen packs, counterfeit high-draw chargers, or unsafe electrical hacks (no stripped wires, no overloaded power strips as a "studio solution")
• If the device warns about temperature, execute a calm pause (BRB habit from PD-06 if you have scenes; otherwise a narrated stretch) and cool down — do not ignore hardware warnings

The session log

Excellence is measurable. After every mobile LIVE or rehearsal, log: start battery %, end battery %, network path used, heat events, mount issues, audio issues, and one fix for next time. Patterns beat vibes.

Your mobile kit list and session log become Capstone evidence that your signature look works on the device you actually use — not only on a fantasy desktop. Optional Production Lab or Honors may review mobile reliability; labs never gate your certificate.

Example 1 — Kit list (minimal). Phone, spring clamp stand, official-spec cable + wall charger, wired earbuds with mic (PD-04 pass), lens cloth, paper Power & Heat Checklist. No ring-light shopping spree required.

Example 2 — Heat save. A creator's ninety-minute sessions died at minute seventy. Log showed case + sunlit window. They moved two feet, removed the case, started plugged in — same phone, finished the block.
